NFP providers, users commended

POPCOM Executive Director Tomas M. Osias commended the natural family planning (NFP) service providers of Northern Mindanao for making a difference in the lives of the people they serve.
In a speech read for him by POPCOM 10 Director Psyche P. Paler during the First Regional Assembly of NFP Users and Service Providers, May 28 this year at Xavier Sports and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City, Osias assured the NFP service providers that their effort has not been in vain, as proven by the holding of the assembly.”
The activity was attended by some 200 NFP service providers, users, church-based NFP advocates, led by Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, local government officials and representatives from various line agencies of government and the private sector, among others.
In the same occasion, Osias expressed confidence that the NFP has somehow empowered the spouses, as they have increased self-awareness in their fertility and human reproductive factors even as it encourages and respects natural processes.
He also described the NFP as adaptable, since the technology can be transferred by couples to their families and friends.
The NFP also builds relationship, as it promotes male involvement, communication and shared responsibility between husband and wife, Osias added.
The POPCOM official further described the NFP as appropriate for lifelong use, inexpensive, as it does not anymore need the services of any medical personnel to teach the method.
“The natural family planning also guides the couples in achieving the number of children they want and when to have them,” Osias stated.
For him, the Assembly was one concrete proof that the Responsible Parenthood and Natural Family Planning Program has taken flight and is gaining momentum in Northern Mindanao. (Arjay S. Felicilda)
