CDO archdiocese hopes replication of own NFP model

The archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro is wishful that the model of church-government engagement along the responsible parenthood and natural family planning (RP/NFP) programs can be replicated in other areas.
This was expressed by Archbishop Antonio J. Ledesma, SJ in his message, which was read for him by Monsignor Elmer Abacahin, during the National Population and Development Assembly in Metro Manila, November 25 this year.

POPCOM spearheads National PopDev Congress

Responsible Parenting and National Family Planning (RP/NFP) advocates from all over the country will troop to Metro Manila, November 25 this year, for the 2009 National POPDEV Congress.
The activity will be spearheaded by the Commission on Population (POPCOM), in collaboration with the Philippine NGO Council on Population, Health and Welfare (PNGOC), line agencies of government, non-government organizations and the religious sector.

The government is now promoting population management, not population control.
This and other concerns were taken up during the Media Practitioners’ Advocacy Workshop on Responsible Parenthood and Natural Family Planning in Davao City, October 22-24 this year.
Angelo Barreto Palmones, station manager of DZMM Manila, pointed out that population control is not population management, or vice versa. They are not synonymous with each other.

WITNESS PROGRAM LACKS FUNDS - GONZALES

THE government is terribly hard-pressed in sustaining its Witness Protection Program (WPP) for lack of necessary funds, according to Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales.

In a news conference during the 21st National Convention and Referendum of the Prosecutors League of the Philippines (NPLP) here in Cagayan de Oro City, Gonzales told media that the budget of WPP for this year is only 90 million pesos, which is never enough for the needs of witnesses placed under the program.
